Brisbane Internation 2017 - 1st week of 2017

(RO)   In circuitul tenisului feminin a inceput capitolul 2017 si fiecare jucatoare a primit sansa de a cuceri titluri noi si a ajunge in varful clasamentul WTA. Inceputul de an a oferit trei destinatii diferite in trei tari deosebite, China, Australia si Noua Zeelanda. Brisbane International 2017, fiind considerat cel mai bine dotat turneu din prima saptamana a si avut pe lista sa cinci jucatoare din top. Liderul mondial Angelique Kerber, Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza, Dominika Cibulkova si Svetlana Kuznetsova au ales competitia respectiva, ca pregatire pentru primul turneu de mare slem a anului. Dupa publicarea tragerii la sorti, turneul promitea ca si in fiecare an meciuri interesante cu rezultate neasteptate. In primele zile favoritele au demonstrat un joc consistent si au avansat in fazele finale ale competitiei, cu exceptia capului de serie numarul opt rusoaica Elena Vesnina care a cedat in fata surprizei turneului Alize Cornet 3-6 6-4 7-6, care mai tirziu avea sa ajunga in finala. In patrimi, Elina Svitolina a produs un alt soc pe tablou, dupa ce a invins-o pe numarul unu mondial, nemtoaica Angelique Kerber 6-4 3-6 6-3. In penultimul act jucatoarea din Ucraina nu a reusit sa mentina un joc la fel de constant si a fost invinsa de Karolina Pliskova 2-6 4-6. In cealalta semifinala favorita patru Garbine Muguruza s-a retras din cauza unei accidentari dupa doar 5 game-uri jucate, oferindu-i un loc in finala jucatoarei din Franta Alize Cornet, surpriza turneului cum mentionasem mai devreme. Asadar, lupta pentru trofeu s-a dat intre Pliskova si Cornet. Dupa o ora si 6 minute jucatoarea din Cehia s-a impus categoric in doua seturi 6-0 6-3, nelasandu-i nici o sansa adversarei si cucerind titlu cu numarul 7. Capitolul care a impresionat cel mai mult a fost procentajul foarte ridicat de 90% la punctele castigate cu primul serviciu, 19 puncte din 21 dintre care 7 au fost directe. Dupa aceasta victorie Karolina Pliskova va reveni in top 5 mondial si desigur va fi una dintre principalele favorite pentru Australian Open.

After the main draw has been published, there were coming some exciting matches with unexpected results. In the first days, the seeds have shown a consistent game and have advanced to the final rounds, except the Russian 8th seed Elena Vesnina who has been eliminated by the surprise of the tournament Alize Cornet 3-6 6-4 7-6, who later would reach the finals. In the quarter-finals, Elina Svitolina has produced another shock by defeating the world number 1 Angelique Kerber 6-4 3-6 6-3. In the next match, the Ukranian wasn´t able to raise her game again and lost against Karolina Pliskova 2-6 4-6. In the other semifinals match Alizé Cornet has qualified for the finals after Garbiñe Muguruza was forced to retire due to injury playing only 5 games. So the big battle for the trophy was between Pliskova and Cornet. After one hour and six minutes, the Czech player has won in two sets 6-0 6-6-3, showing a dominant play and adding on her list the title number 7. Her serve was the key to the match by winning 90% of the points played on the first and hitting 7 aces. After this victory, Pliskova will return to number 5 in the rankings and definitely will be one of the favorites for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, Australian Open.
