AO 2017(1): Wozniacki, Safarova, Konta, Vesnina are among the winners of the 2nd day action

The second day of the Australian Open was full of action and featured some interesting matches. Let's have a look at the results:

The hero of the day was definitely Lucie Safarova who saved nine match points to defeat Yanina Wickmayer 3-6 7-6 6-1. The Belgian has led by one set and 6-3 in the tiebreak, but Safarova played her best to come back and turn the match in her favor after 2 hours and 7 minutes. Next opponent for the Czech is Serena Williams in a rematch of 2015 French Open Final.

Caroline Wozniacki managed an easy first round win overcoming Arina Rodionova 6-1 6-2. It was a one-way victory, as the former world Nº1 played consistently enough to secure a spot in the next round and thus, looking for a deep run at Melbourne Park this year.

Seeded No.14, her highest seeding ever at a Slam in singles, Elena Vesnina defeated Ana Bogdan 7-5 6-2 on court 3. The Russian has struggled with her rhythm during the first set but found her game in the keys moments and closed the contest in one hour and 23 minutes.

The Apia International Champion continued her winning ways sending home Kirsten Flipkens 7-5 6-2. The Belgian is a very tricky opponent, especially in the early stages of a Grand Slam, but for Konta today was not a bit trouble, even if the first set finished after 12 games. The 9th seed kept her winning ways and booked a ticket in the second round.
