AO 2017 (R2): Kuznetsova, Cirstea, Jankovic and Svitolina feature wins to stay in the tournament

Around the courts on Day 3 at Melbourne Park:




Sorana Cirstea was the player of the day after shocking the 10th seed, Suarez Navarro 7-6 6-3. The Romanian managed to find the right balance to impose her strong game from the baseline. Dominating with her shots from the both sides, she noticed a stellar performance against the Spaniard and booked a spot in the third round after one hour and 34 minutes.



Jelena Jankovic overcame the powerful groundstrokes of Julia Goerges to take the win in two straight sets 6-3 6-4.  The Serbian secured the advantage of one break in each set and played quite solid to complete a well-deserved performance against the German in one hour and a half.




Svetlana Kuznetsova dismissed Jamee Fourlis to advance to the next round at Melbourne Park. It was all about Sveta´s game, as the resurgent Russian gave a tennis lesson to her unexperienced opponent and grab the win easily 6-2 6-1.  



Th 11th seed safely past Julia Boserup to move in the third round after one hour and 16 minutes. One of the best counter punchers on the tour, the Ukranian performed well enough to keep a positive balance hitting 24 winners to 21 unforced errors and to secure the win in two set 6-4 6-1.
